Ten days after the war ended, my sister Laura drove a car off a bridge.

The opening line of The Blind Assassin – that is how Margaret Atwood hooked me.

Many summers have passed since then, and after spending many evenings devouring six more of her books, here I am today, with a shiny copy of Stone Mattress in my hands which will be the second short story collection I review.

The back blurb says “Stone Mattress, a collection of nine acerbic, mischievous, gulpable short stories, addresses themes that will resonate with anyone familiar with Atwood’s writing.” So can’t wait to crack this open and start reading!

Tomorrow I’ll be back with the first story of the collection, ‘Alphinland’. Till then, stay tuned!
